Growing up my parents used to tell me all sorts of things to assist in my development through to adulthood, and beyond.  "Never go out without clean underwear on, in case you get hit by a bus", "it's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts" and "always use a firm of accountants for tax advice"… As a good little boy I always listened to my parents, they were old so therefore knew best, right? Well, not exactly..

Let's take the first phrase as an example. If you get hit by a bus (and I hope you don't) the last thing you or anyone else is going to be looking at is how clean your underwear is. The second adage is just rubbish. No one remembers who came second to Daley Thompson when he won his first decathlon gold in 1980. It's the winner that gets the plaudits and fame.

Which leads me to the third of my parents' rules for life skills.. Well, this too isn't true. There are some excellent accountancy firms out there but why not think outside the box (a nice accountant's phrase there)? If your financial affairs require the use of an accountant then you probably use a solicitor too. At Gepp Solicitors we are an advanced thinking firm that has both the usual solicitors for all your legal needs and also chartered tax advisors that can assist and provide tax advice and compliance. It's an unusual set-up that means we can give you holistic advice and can prepare all the necessary legal documentation that goes with it.

Why use two firm's for your advice when you can use one with all the technical skills and knowledge in house. If you would like to streamline your tax and legal affairs please do not hesitate to contact Marc Dorsett on 01245 228146 or dorsettm@gepp.co.uk to see how we can help.

This is not legal advice; it is intended to provide information of general interest about current legal issues.
