2019/20 tax return deadline “extension”

HMRC announced today that those who would usually submit a Self-Assessment tax return would not be given a late filing penalty for submitting their 2019/20 tax return after the usual 31st of January 2021 deadline, on condition that it is filed online by 28th February. There has been no change to the payment deadline of 31st January and, from 1st February, interest will be charged on any outstanding liabilities.

We would still advise that, if you are able to file your return by the 31st January, you do so as you will still need to calculate your tax liability.
