What are your options when your Facebook account gets hacked?
If a third party gets hold of a Facebook account held by individual or company, whether for innocent purposes or not, there are certain steps that need to be taken quickly to recover control of the account. These requirements are strict and are set by Facebook.
Only a notary public is able to provide the confirmation that Facebook are looking for. Facebook is a US corporation and recognise the position of a notary public, who holds an international qualification, rather than a UK based solicitor who only has authority within England and Wales.
Facebook require a declaration which is prepared by the notary setting out who has control of the account at the moment and who is a duly authorised member of the company concerned, if the UK account is held by a corporate entity. Certain information has to be provided to Facebook in a strictly prescribed order.
This service can be provided to clients through our notarial practice and documentation can be ready to submit to Facebook within 2 hours of an initial instruction being accepted. That should enable Facebook to restore control of the compromised account to the correct corporate party or individual overnight.
Dealing with such risks requires rapid action to be taken to protect a client's interests
