Sabina Trigg is a Solicitor in the criminal law team at Gepp Solicitors.

Sabina has experience of the full spectrum of criminal defence work, from representing clients at the police station and Magistrates Court through to preparing cases before the Crown Court. She is skilled in legal research, case analysis and advocacy. This has included working in the defence team on complex and serious charges such as murder, rape and sexual assault.

Sabina is strongly committed to defending and protecting the rights of individuals at every stage of the criminal justice process. Sabina specialises in criminal defence and regularly represents clients from pre-charge investigation through to the conclusion of a criminal trial. Her experience ranges from minor cases such as criminal damage through to charges of rape and murder.

Vulnerable clients

Sabina has a particular focus on representing young people and clients with mental health vulnerabilities. She understands the additional challenges these individuals face within the justice system and adopts a patient, supportive and non-judgemental approach throughout.

Reported Court Cases

R v E – Youth defendant charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. Made representations to the Crown regarding the client’s personal circumstances, particularly highlighting his diagnosis of autism and ADHD. The Crown dropped the case against the client following these representations.
R v L – Defendant charged with assault on an emergency worker and possession of a weapon. Enabled client to avoid custody, despite having been charged with possession of a weapon previously.
R v L – Represented a client through Crown Court proceedings for a charge of burglary, stalking and threatening a person with a weapon. Due to the extensive time it took for the case to go to trial, the CPS offered no evidence and the case was dismissed.
R v K – Worked on a case against a youth charged with possessing indecent images. A computer expert concluded that the material was not accessed by the defendant, having been downloaded automatically via a social media website. The case was dismissed.
Failure to ensure children’s attendance at school – R V G – Our client had been charged with two counts of failure to ensure her children’s attendance at school. The client did not receive the paperwork from the authorities confirming a court date. This resulted in the trial continuing in her absence and the court found her guilty. On the day of sentence, Sabina made an application for the client to make a statutory declaration confirming that no post was received and the client was unaware of any court proceedings. The Court accepted Sabina’s submissions. Written submissions were then made to the Local Authority highlighting the issues with the case. The Local Authority withdrew all court proceedings and offered the client a Penalty Notice.
Murder – R V D – Sabina represented a client charged with the murder of his wife. The client was particularly vulnerable with both mental and physical health conditions, which included being partially sighted and having diabetic seizures. Sabina advised the client accordingly during the police interview and assisted with the preparation of the case before trial.
Breach of Crown Court bail – R V T – TS was arrested for separate offences and remanded into custody for breach of Crown Court bail conditions. The circumstances surrounding the breach dated back to 6 months prior to the client’s arrest. Sabina raised her concerns with the CPS lawyer regarding the lapse of time. This resulted in the CPS withdrawing the breach and re-instating the client to bail as before.
Murder and Possession of Offensive Weapon – R V E – Sabina assisted with the representation of a 15-year-old boy jointly charged with murder, attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon and violent disorder. The case was heard before the Central Criminal Court. The client had extensive mental health conditions, which were highlighted to the court. Sabina supported the client from the police stations to the trial.
S20 GBH – R V E – Sabina was instructed to represent a client charged with S20 grievous bodily harm on a prison officer at HMP Chelmsford. The client was diagnosed with schizophrenia and during his time in prison was unmedicated. The prison made a referral for the client to be transferred to a mental health facility. Sabina instructed a psychiatrist to produce a report, which confirmed the client was mentally ill at the time of the offence. Written submissions were made to the CPS and the CPS agreed with our representations and withdrew all charges.

Reported Police Station Cases

ABH and public order offence – Our client was a 13-year-old boy interviewed for an ABH offence and a public order offence. It was alleged that the client had assaulted another boy and later made derogatory comments a girl. Sabina advised the client to put forward a prepared statement in interview, confirming that he was the victim in the case. The police took no further action with this matter following Sabina’s advice.
Bringing a prohibited article into a prison – Sabina represented a 15-year-old boy who had been caught on CCTV taking a Class B drug into a YOI (Young Offenders Institute) Prison. This offence carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment. The client had a diagnosis of ADHD and difficult personal circumstances. Written submissions were made to the police, who offered a conditional caution.
Harassment – Sabina was instructed to represent a client being interviewed for harassment. It was alleged that the client had used social media, namely TikTok and WhatsApp to harass other people online. Sabina advised the client to exercise his right to remain silent based on the lack of police evidence. The police took no further action.
