Rachael joined Gepp in August 2026 following a long career within accountancy practices, where she developed extensive experience in both tax compliance and advisory work.
She specialises predominantly in personal taxation, with particular experience in Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax, alongside Self Assessment, trusts and estate taxation.
By working alongside Gepp’s legal teams, Rachael is able to provide joined-up tax and legal support, helping clients understand both the legal and taxation implications of the decisions they make.
Rachael began her career at the Royal Courts of Justice, working across a number of departments including Bankruptcy, the Companies Court and the Supreme Court Taxing Office.
She moved into accountancy in 1997 and subsequently trained and qualified in taxation. During more than 25 years working in accountancy practices, Rachael developed broad experience across personal tax compliance and advisory work.
Her advisory work has particularly focused on Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax, as well as taxation relating to trusts and estates.
In more recent years, Rachael also held management responsibilities, training and developing tax team members, meeting with clients and overseeing tax compliance, deadlines and service delivery.
Having spent much of her career working within accountancy practices, Rachael was attracted to the opportunity at Gepp to bring her tax experience into a legal environment, enabling clients to benefit from more integrated tax and legal advice.
Rachael advises individuals on personal taxation matters, including Self Assessment Tax Returns and ongoing tax compliance.
Rachael advises clients on the Capital Gains Tax implications of transactions and disposals, including property and other assets, helping them understand their potential liabilities and available planning opportunities.
Rachael has extensive experience advising on Inheritance Tax, including planning during a client’s lifetime and the tax implications of gifts and estate planning.
Rachael assists with tax compliance and advisory matters relating to trusts and works alongside Gepp’s Private Client lawyers where both tax and legal advice is required.
Rachael believes effective tax advice is about being proactive rather than simply responding to a tax liability once it arises.
She works with clients to understand what they ultimately want to achieve before considering the tax implications and the different options available to them. While reducing unnecessary tax is important, Rachael recognises that the lowest-tax option is not always the one that best achieves a client’s wider objectives.
Tax can also be complex, so Rachael places particular importance on making her advice understandable and accessible. She adapts the way she communicates according to the individual client, whether that means a written explanation, a timeline or diagram, or simply talking through the issues in straightforward terms.
For Rachael, developing strong relationships with clients and earning their trust is fundamental to providing good tax advice.
