Specialist Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) advice

If you’re buying a property or considering a purchase, you’ll usually need to pay Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT). However, SDLT can be a complex area of tax law, and in some cases buyers pay more tax than they need to.

The amount of SDLT you pay depends on several factors, including the purchase price, the type of property, whether you already own other property and whether any reliefs are available.

Capital Gains Tax (CGT) on residential property

If you are selling a property that has not been your main residence throughout your ownership, or you are selling a buy-to-let property, you may have Capital Gains Tax (CGT) to pay.

Current legislation requires UK residential property disposals that result in Capital Gains Tax being due to be reported to HMRC within 60 days of completion. Any tax owed must also be paid within the same deadline.
