We are delighted to welcome experienced Tax Advisor Rachael Ayre to our Private Client team, further strengthening our established tax offering.
Rachael joins us with more than 25 years’ experience in taxation, having spent much of her career working within accountancy practices and advising individuals, families, trusts and estates.
Working alongside Partner and Head of Private Client Marc Dorsett and the wider team, Rachael will add further depth and capacity to our existing tax services, while supporting our joined-up approach to tax, estate planning and other legal matters.
Rachael’s experience covers a broad range of personal taxation matters, including Self-Assessment, Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax, trusts and estates. She will also support clients as the requirements of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax continue to be introduced.
Marc Dorsett, Partner and Head of Private Client, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Rachael to Gepp. Tax advice has long formed an important part of our Private Client offering, and Rachael’s considerable experience will further strengthen the support we are able to provide to our clients.
“Her background in personal taxation complements the expertise already within the team and gives us additional depth and capacity across areas including Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, trusts and estates. Rachael also shares our approach of looking at a client’s wider circumstances rather than considering tax or legal issues in isolation.”
Having worked closely with legal professionals throughout her career, Rachael had long been interested in the opportunity to bring tax and legal advice closer together.
Rachael said:
“During my time in accountancy practice, we regularly received referrals and queries from lawyers where clients needed specialist tax support. It made me realise how valuable it can be for clients to have their legal and tax advisers working closely together.
“Joining Gepp Solicitors gives me the opportunity to help bridge that gap. Having tax and legal expertise under one roof means we can take a more joined-up approach, giving clients greater consistency and helping them understand the wider implications of the decisions they are making.”
For Rachael, good tax advice starts with understanding what a client actually wants to achieve rather than looking at tax in isolation.
She explained:
“Tax planning is about being proactive. Of course clients want to manage their tax position effectively, but the option that produces the lowest tax bill isn’t necessarily the option that achieves everything they want.
“My role is to explore the different possibilities with them, explain the implications clearly and help them make an informed decision about the best way forward.”
Making complicated tax matters understandable is also central to Rachael’s approach. She recognises that clients absorb information in different ways and adapts the way she communicates accordingly, whether through written explanations, diagrams and timelines or simply talking an issue through.
Rachael holds an LLB and is both ATT and CTA qualified. She is also keen to continue developing her specialist knowledge of trusts and estates through further STEP study.
Her arrival comes at a time of considerable change in personal taxation, including the ongoing introduction of Making Tax Digital and continued focus on areas such as Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, pensions and the taxation of property.
Rachael will work closely with Marc and colleagues across our Private Client team, helping clients consider their tax position alongside their wider legal, estate and succession planning needs.
